As a GP, I find it important to see the person behind the patient. When it is clear what problems and questions arise from a complaint, it helps to give everyone the attention they need. In doing so, I think it is important to explain well and understandably what is going on. I therefore see the long-term treatment relationship you build with patients as a GP as a core part of the profession.
My combined background in radiology and family medicine gives me a good basic knowledge of the body's anatomy and physiology. These are often complex, but also beautiful. Knowledge of this helps us understand where complaints come from and what, if anything, we can do about them. It is precisely this basis that I like to use to explain to patients where their complaints come from, so that I can better help them make a decision on further treatment or management of the complaints.
